Croatian producer Lecor has earned two awards at the 2022 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition.
"Winning is a great feeling," owner Marko Lepur said. "We will keep doing the best we can to keep the highest quality of our olive oil."
The company earned a Gold Award for its Lepur Organic brand, a medium blend, and a Silver Award for its Uljara Lepur brand, another medium blend. The awards were the company's first at the world's most prestigious olive oil quality contest.
Located in the small village of Lepuri, just an hour southeast of Zadar in Dalmatia, the Lepur family cultivates 5,000 olive trees using strictly organic practices.
Lepur attributed some of the company's success to its state-of-the-art Mori Tem oil mill, which the family recently installed and allows them to transform 1,000 kilograms of olives each hour into extra virgin olive oil.
However, Lepuri added that 2021 still was a challenging harvest. "It was a very hard season, but the oil has extra high-quality," he said.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, held each spring in New York, is the world's largest and most prestigious olive oil contest. Its annual listing of award winners is considered the authoritative guide to the year’s best extra virgin olive oils.
